You can now upload your own images and edit them using Niji!
💡
Important note. This feature is currently in testing: You must be subscribed continuously for a year or have over 10,000 generations in order to use it!
Head on over to the link to check it out:
If you are familiar with the Vary (region) feature, the controls are similar!
Here is the illustration of our mascot girl, Saika. Let’s use the editor to close her eyes.
Select “Edit Uploaded Image” to use a file from your computer
You can use the erase tool to wipe away the region that you want to change.
Type in a prompt for what you want the change to be, and press submit for the new picture!
The bar at the right lets you choose between options.
💡
If you are using us from midjourney’s website, be sure to set the version to Niji 6 in order to use Niji’s edit.
Hmmm. What is she so happy about? Maybe she found a nice breadstick.
I think you’ll be able to find some very fun things to do with this tool.
One awesome feature is that niji will fill in the transparent region for you on pictures with transparency information. This opens the door to exciting new edit types that we couldn’t do before.
(Note: Some of these advanced usage examples require an external tool to manipulate the transparents.)
Without further ado, I present to you the denizens of #prompt-support
I want to control the position
It used to be difficult to control the placement of a picture: the pan and zoom features don’t show you visually where your subject’s going to end up. Now, you can move it to exactly where you want; simply grab the handlebars at the edge of the canvas.
I want to make two character in the same shot
We get a lot of requests on placing two characters into the same shot.
In the past, the only way to make this happen was to rely on pan to draw the second character, with often mixed results. Now all you have to do is place the two characters in the same shot. Niji can handle the transition, even with a complex background attached!
I want a tall woman and a short man
This is a common request that we receive: tall woman and short man. Of all the difficult biases we’ve conquered, this one remains surprisingly unsolved.
You can now manipulate the man to be shorter, using the transparency filling technique:
It will take several iterations to seal up the cracks, but niji is capable of some extremely fine grain adjustments, like changing the angle of the man’s gaze, so that he’s properly looking up at the taller woman.
Oftentimes, you have the perfect head, but you want to get the rest of the picture. In the past, users who have attempted to “finish” the body of a picture often got weird results in the proportions. Now you can get better proportions by putting dropping some guiding feet at the bottom!
Don’t give up, #prompt-support!
We previously discussed picture-driven interface design in our image-reference update. I had written something to the effect of “It’s better to show niji what you mean rather than tell niji what you mean” https://nijijourney.com/en/blog/niji-features-advanced-cref-and-sref-interface.
Throughout history, a lot of what we think of as “art movements” is actually the effect of new interfaces being adopted. For example, a big part of what makes Impressionism look the way it does happened because people moved their paintings outdoors. They were able to move their paintings outdoors because portable tube paints were being developed at that time.
We seem to be in the middle of the largest art movement to date, because GenAI bringing in an enormous influx of newcomers into the art makers’ world. As this crowd mature into these new tools, they will want to exercise more fine-grained control over their generations, tools that go beyond words-to-picture. One of you will be the Van Gogh of GenAI. I wonder what your movement will be called!
But that is something for historians to figure out. In the here and now, we are making these tools because we have a fierce and unrelenting joy to directly manipulate our pictures. I’ll leave you here with two little teasers of the technology we are working on.
