prompt: miku with hamburger
Niji 5 is optimized for emotional, dramatic, artistic illustrations. It can even turn a simple prompt like “open book” into a dramatic, artistic masterpiece.
prompt: open book
But sometimes you don’t want an emotional, dramatic, artistic open book. Sometimes you want a book which is simply open.
As we covered in 🌹 The Study of Aesthetics, choosing the correct aesthetic (or more colloquially, “style”) for the occasion is important, just like how you wear your school uniform to school and your cocktail dress to your cocktail parties. To that end, we have prepared a closet of niji 5 designer aesthetics to style your pictures perfectly.
Starting from today, we’ll be unveiling one new style per week. Please look forward to it! Our month-long countdown event begins now!
Niji 5’s Characteristic Aesthetic
The first aesthetic that we’ll be introducing is the default “niji style.”
In this project, we talk a lot about making pictures that look “anime” One of the hallmarks of “anime” is that it is a very abstract, but rigid aesthetic. This means that anime objects don’t look like their real-world counterparts, but they look very consistent across other anime pictures. This is weird from an machine learning standpoint, since most images produced in the world today are grounded in reality. As a result, a lot of the work that we do to improve the quality of niji is fabricating these abstract rules against the flow of data.
For niji 5, we took a lot of inspiration from the fundamentals of visual design. You can think of these as the hidden rules which power many great works of art, from simple logos to intricate paintings. We distilled this ruleset and applied it to drawing anime.
Here are the technical highlights about what Niji 5 has to offer.
1) Strengthened terminator line - The division across light and shadow in a picture is called a “terminator line.” Niji 5 leverages a strong terminator line to improve first read impact.
2) Unified shadow/light forms - We made areas on the same side of the terminator line more alike. This makes the picture feel “clean.” You’ll notice that niji 5 pictures will have less texture on average, but feel more robust in informational content.
3) Precise pivotal details - In terms of anime pictures, small, precise features are the key to making a strong composition. Niji 5 has uncanny accuracy in placing small, pivotal details, like eye highlights.
4) Image coherency - We worked hard on the overall coherency of the image. in Niji 5, you should notice similar improvements to difficult subjects like hands as Midjourney v5.
The overall effect is an emotional, yet elegant look. We hope you will find it a great language for expressing your creative concepts.
Style flag - controlling the influence of aesthetic
Since Niji 5 has a heavy focus on stylistic development, we introduced a setting to tone the style of the model up and down. by using the --s flag, you can increase and decrease the effect of the niji aesthetic.
This is a sample of how to use the style flag.
/imagine young female knight --s 100
The blue text is your prompt
The green text is the style. Be careful of the spaces!
put a space after the prompt, and after the “s”
--s100 won’t work, and knight--s 100 won’t work either!
The larger the number, the greater effect that style will have!
The below video demonstrates the effect of the style parameter on a sample prompt “young female knight”
I hope you enjoy using Niji 5! Thank you for your continued support!
